Two Day Workshop – Seascapes with Ink and Rollers with Alice Pascall

Course Description

Alice Pascall’s first workshop with us was a huge success, and she’s booked in to do another in October – this time, a two-dayer as everybody felt that one day was just not long enough!

Alice has developed her own unique process of using specialist inks and rollers to achieve beautiful dispersion of colour for the backdrops of her seascapes.

Alice will commence day one with a discussion of her specific and effective way of painting, going through some of her own paintings to allow you to understand the marks that can be made and how the tools and medium can be used. She will talk through composition and putting together the story of the painting. Your tools for the day will be specialist rollers, silicone colour shapers, and palette knives. Alice usually only uses a brush to sign her work so even the most experienced artist should have something new to learn, and the least experienced will easily engage with the joy and ease of the technique.

During the first day, you will observe 2 or 3 demonstrations which will cover how to apply the sky in ink, followed by the sea, and finally the addition of the more detailed aspects of the land in oils with a palette knife. You will get the opportunity to ‘play’ with these new roller and mark-making techniques on surfaces before you then apply them to to your painting. Day two will also have a couple of demos, and you will get a further chance to work on a larger piece through to completion.

There will be plenty of one-on-one support, and students should feel fully supported through the process, so they can fully engage with each stage.

Alice respects each student’s need for different levels of support and will follow their lead as the day goes along.
