
The Cornish Coast in Acrylics with Kevin Scully

Course Description
This one day course in acrylics celebrates the beautiful and diverse Cornish coastline from its wild and crashing seas, golden sandy beaches, and steep and craggy cliffs, to its tranquil and sleepy coves.
You will be capturing some of these images in acrylics, with a loose and expressive style. Your tutor will take you through the various methods and techniques that you can use to create a painting full of interest and atmosphere.
Course Information
An assortment of artists quality acrylic paints to include these colours or similar:
- Titanium White
- Cadmium Yellow Pale
- Cadmium Orange
- Cadmium Red
- Permanent Rose
- Dioxazine Violet
- Cerulean Blue
- Cobalt Blue
- Hooker’s Green
- Phthalo Green
- Oxide of Chromium
- Raw Sienna
- Burnt Sienna
- Raw Umber
- Payne’s Grey
- A selection of canvases or canvas boards about A3 size or larger.
- Good quality synthetic brushes in various sizes and shapes, preferably to include a big brush for painting large areas.
- 1 dark brown & 1 dark blue coloured pencil.
- A tear-off palette or some disposable paper plates.
- Some old clothes or an apron.
Optional
- Any of your favourite acrylic painting materials.
- Reference material will be provided, but please bring along any images that you would like to work from.

Kevin Scully teaches in acrylics, oils, watercolour, pastels and drawing at courses, workshops, and painting holidays in the UK and abroad. He writes regular articles for The Artist, and Artists & Illustrators magazines. He is the author of several books including ‘Still Life in Gouache’, ‘Drawing and Painting on Location’, and ‘Landscape Painting’.
Find Out MoreOur courses usually begin at 10am and end at 4:30pm, with a half an hour lunch break at around 1pm. There will also be brief morning and afternoon breaks, with free tea and coffee available in the kitchen area. At Lunch time you can make things nice and easy by pre-ordering a freshly prepared Coach House Lunch. Alternatively, you’re very welcome to bring along a packed lunch and any other refreshments you like.
On sunny days students and tutors are invited to enjoy breaktimes outside in the leafy courtyard or gardens surrounded by birdsong.
