‘The A-Z of Acrylics’ DEMO with Soraya French

Course Description

Run by Soraya French, Director and former President of the Society of Women Artists and the UK’s Golden Certified Working Artist, this demonstration includes lots of valuable information about acrylics, guiding you through the basics while opening up new possibilities!

You’ll gain information about mineral and modern pigments and how this relates to clean colour mixing, glazing and the creation of fabulous new colours. Learn the unique properties of Golden Fluid, Heavy Body, OPEN and High Flow Acrylics. Discover Interference and Iridescent paints for unusual effects. Get a comprehensive overview on the many Gels & Mediums and how they can change texture, saturation and intensity of colour, used for sculptural effects and more. This demonstration also includes a review of Grounds that create truly, contemporary surfaces for painting, drawing, pastel, digital printing and mixed media. Soraya will include an array of examples of these materials put to use in the hope that you leave enthusiastic to explore the extensive potential of acrylic painting!

There will be a short break half way through the demo for tea, coffee and biscuits. 

 

Award-winning contemporary artist Soraya French combines a successful exhibiting career with writing books as well as articles for the UK’s leading art publication ‘’The Artist’’ magazine. She also carries out occasional experimental workshops both at home and abroad. The success of her art books commissioned by Harper Collins have brought her an international recognition and following.

Soraya is a director and former president of The Society of Women Artists and curates their annual exhibition at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London.

Soraya works in all painting media but is particularly known for her expressive and colourful mixed media paintings. Use of vibrant colours, light and expressive textures are prominent features of her work. The ambiguity and evocative quality in her paintings leaves something for the viewer’s imagination. She has been the recipient of a number of prestigious art awards in the last few years and her work is held in many private and public collections both at home and abroad.

Soraya’s studio is located at Project workshops in Quarley near Andover, where she works and runs occasional two day experimental workshops. A selection of her paintings and prints can be viewed at the studio by appointment and at their two open studio weekends in May and December.

Soraya French

International Artist and Author, Soraya works in watercolours, oils, pastels, acrylics and mixed media with a variety of subject matters such as musicians, café scenes and African market scenes amongst others. Many of her subjects are travel based including people in everyday life situations. Soraya has received a number of prestigious art awards for her paintings in recent years and many of her paintings can be found in private and public collections both at home and abroad.

Our courses usually begin at 10am and end at 4:30pm, with a half an hour lunch break at around 1pm. There will also be brief morning and afternoon breaks, with free tea and coffee available in the kitchen area. At Lunch time you can make things nice and easy by pre-ordering a freshly prepared Coach House Lunch. Alternatively, you’re very welcome to bring along a packed lunch and any other refreshments you like.

On sunny days students and tutors are invited to enjoy breaktimes outside in the leafy courtyard or gardens surrounded by birdsong.
