Loose and Free Flower Painting with Soraya French
The internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Soraya French will be with us to run this mixed-media course designed for anyone who wishes to explore the versatility of working with acrylics and inks on the theme of loose and free florals.
This workshop will suit those who wish to progress towards a looser way of depicting flowers rather than a tight and detailed style. The subject allows the students to experience working with acrylic inks or diluted heavy body colours or fluids to take the subject towards slightly more abstract forms. There will be examples of possible techniques through demonstrations as well as plenty of individual tuition throughout the day. Colour, composition, elements and principles of design will be touched upon during the course of the workshop. A fun and informative day for flower lovers and those who love working with bright and vibrant colours.
Towards the end of the day, we clear up space to showcase the works produced during the course of the day and although everyone will have plenty of individual appraisal throughout the day, certain paintings will be talked about if there are points that are of benefit to the group for learning purposes. This is on a voluntary basis and those who do not wish to show any of their work at the end of the day do not have to do this, they will have had their personal critique during the day, but this is a beneficial exercise for all. By the time the students leave this workshop they should be well versed in the versatility of acrylics and its related products and how to incorporate it into a mixed media painting. Finally, there will be an opportunity for a Q & session at the end of the day before we say goodbye.
Important: The students are encouraged to bring some personal reference materials in the form of photos and sketches in order to produce original work. So please bring a selection of photos or sketches of your favourite flowers. You may work from fresh flowers in front of you or bring pots of flowers with interesting backgrounds, Soraya would like to encourage the students to produce really original paintings with maximum input from themselves. She works from images on her ipad so it is imperative to bring your own references.
