Course Description

This workshop with the ever-popular Judi Trevorrow will look a different ways of using pen in combination with watercolour. Lear to work quickly, loosely and then in more detail. You will use pen first to create a drawing which will then be developed with the addition of watercolour paint. Students will aim to produce a couple of studies over the course of the day, developing a deeper understanding of the medium.

Equipment list

  1. Watercolour paper 140lbs cold pressed A4 in siz, 2 or 3 pieces
  2. Hardbacked sketching book A4 or A5 can be cartridge paper or watercolour paper.
  3. Watercolour round brushes including a no.8 and a small rigger, and a larger soft wetting brush
  4. 4B pencil
  5. Kitchen roll
  6. 2 plastic water containers
  7. Masking tape
  8. Plastic rubber
  9. Watercolour paint including: Gamboge, raw sienna, Alizarin crimson, light red, burnt sienna, Prussian blue or winsor blue red shade, ultramarine, sap green
  10. Mixing palette
  11. Black or Sepia permanent waterproof fineliner pen 0.5 or 0.6

Any other equipment you normally have.

Please make sure you have a jacket and suitable footwear, hat, sun cream and anything else you may need to work outside. If you need and have a portable chair or stool that could make drawing a bit more comfortable.

Judi Trevorrow

Judi Trevorrow is a hugely popular artist for her seascapes, harbour and floral paintings. Living in Cornwall, Judi is constantly inspired by the dramatic light, the surf and sand, the gardens and the myriad of tiny harbours and inlets.

Our courses usually begin at 10am and end at 4:30pm, with a half an hour lunch break at around 1pm. There will also be brief morning and afternoon breaks, with free tea and coffee available in the kitchen area. At Lunch time you can make things nice and easy by pre-ordering a freshly prepared Coach House Lunch. Alternatively, you’re very welcome to bring along a packed lunch and any other refreshments you like.

On sunny days students and tutors are invited to enjoy breaktimes outside in the leafy courtyard or gardens surrounded by birdsong.
