Abstracting the View – Landscapes and Vistas with Tom Voyce

Course Description
We are very fortunate to have 2017 Landscape Artist of the Year Tom Voyce joining us in April for this workshop. You will explore how to deconstruct a view of your choice (either exterior of interior) and with Tom’s guidance, will learn how to analyse and develop your own personal response to your surroundings. Tom will talk you through how to choose an interesting composition, then you will create thumbnail drawings and from that, develop a final painting.
In the studio, you will have the opportunity to learn new skills and techniques, as well as refine your own practice through discussions and demonstrations that will cover the history and basics of landscape painting. These will equip you with all the skills to produce an artwork that reflects a true sense of place.
The focus will be on ‘exploring place’ – working on composition, colour theory, etc, and then students will work to complete a painting or two.
PLEASE NOTE: You are welcome to work either inside the studio for the duration, finding an interior view or ‘inside/outside’ view to work with, or you can explore in the grounds of The Coach House and work on sketches that you bring back to develop in the studio. Please wear appropriate clothes and shoes for this.
